Holden & Leinemann net Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame induction

Ottawa, Canada, March 28, 2019 - Beach volleyball players Jody Holden and Conrad Leinemann will be inducted here on June 6 into the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame.

Joining Holden and Leinemann as 2019 inductees into the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame are women's player Janis Kelly, referee Don Pfeifer and the 1984 Canadian Men’s Olympic Team that finished fourth at the Los Angeles Summer Games. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on June 6, 2019 at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
"This year’s Hall of Fame inductees represent the best of our sport over several decades and disciplines. As we enter into an Olympic qualification period, it’s important that we honour our Olympians from past Games in both beach and indoor volleyball," said Volleyball Canada’s President and CEO Mark Eckert. "And not to be forgotten, the importance of the role that referees play in our system is also recognized. I’m looking forward to this year’s ceremony in Ottawa."

As a team, Holden and Leinemann played nine seasons together on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour and appeared in 89 events where the Canadians posted two podium placements, three final four finishes and 30 top nine showings from 1996 through 2004.

Highlighting the Holden/Leinemann partnership was a ninth-place finish at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, a gold medal together at the 1999 Pan American Games at Winnipeg and a silver medal at a FIVB World Tour event in 2002 in Cadiz, Spain.

Kelly’s volleyball career began late at the age of 14 in Winnipeg where she led the city's university to the 1993 CIAU/CIS Championship. She represented Canada at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic and 1999 Pan American Games. Kelly also had a successful professional career competing for teams in Turkey, Italy and France.

Pfeifer has been involved with the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association for the past 50 years and continues as an active official, mentor and clinician. He received his Level 5 Officials Certification after participating in the Montreal 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and has officiated numerous international matches during his career.

The 1984 Canadian Men’s Team tied for first in its pool with a 3-1 record at the 1984 Summer Games before losing in the medal rounds to the United States and Italy to finish with the country's best-ever Olympic men's result. Members of the team were Rick Bacon, John Barrett, Allan Coulter, Terry Danyluk, Paul Gratton, Glenn Hoag, Tom Jones, Dave Jones, Alex Ketrzynski, Garth Pischke, Don Saxton and Randy Wagner.
