Chinese Olympic champion Wei Quiyue ends career

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 1, 2017 - A player on China's victorious team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Wei Qiuyue announced her retirement on Monday afternoon following her team's sixth place at the 13th Chinese National Games in Tianjin.

"I am going to retire after this Games," said Wei. "I have not made up my mind on my future, but I am sure I will love volleyball as always."

"It's a pity that we failed to make the semifinals this time," said the Tianjin player of her team's participation in the Chinese National Games. "But we have fought for every point and showed everybody the fighting spirit of Tianjin women's volleyball team."

Before winning the Olympic last summer, Wei was also part of the China team which won gold at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in Japan.
