Team profile
Kazakhstan has a strong tradition of women’s Volleyball, with many Kazakhstani players included in USSR teams that won Olympic or world titles. After Kazakhstan gained independence, a newly formed national team began to represent the country in international competitions organized by the AVC and FIVB.

In 2005 Kazakhstan qualified for the 2006 FIVB World Championship in Japan and won the silver medal at the 13th Asian Women’s Championship. In 2007 the team appeared for the first time in the FIVB World Grand Prix and finished in 10th place, beating the Dominican Republic and going close to downing Russia in an epic five-set match.

They were quite unlucky in the Asian Continental Final, losing to Korea, and failed to qualify for the 2007 FIVB World Cup. However, the team took part in the 2008 World Grand Prix and claimed the fourth and final place at the Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan in May 2008, securing an opportunity to compete in the Beijing Games with a last-gasp run of two victories.

In 2009, after successfully performing in the qualification tournaments, Kazakhstan won the right to participate in the 2010 FIVB World Championship in which they failed to reach the Second Round.
