Sollys Nestle Osasco ace Mirador Santo Domingo to win FIVB World Club Championship bronze

Doha, Qatar, October 14, 2011 – Sollys Nestle Osasco finished the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship with the bronze medal after defeating Mirador Santo Domingo 25-9, 25-13, 25-8 Friday morning in Doha, Qatar.

Sollys Nestle Osasco had a balanced offense with four players in double-figure scoring as Ivna Marra led the way with 13 points while Juliana Costa and Adenizia Silva contributing 11 points. Samara Almeida added 10 points. Mirador Santo Domingo was led by Brayelin Martinez with five points. Meanwhile, Sollys Nestle Osasco's Camila Brait totaled 11 of her team's 39 digs and was perfect on eight receptions.

Sollys Nestle has now medaled in the event three times with a silver in 2010 and bronze in 1994. In the 2011 bronze medal match, Sollys Nestle controlled all phases of the match with a 10-3 block advantage, 10-0 margin in aces and 37-18 lead in attacks. The bronze medalists limited their errors to nine, while Mirador committed 19 miscues.

Sollys Nestle went up 2-0 to start the first set with a block by Adenizia Silva and a Mirador attack error. Sollys Nestle extended their advantage to 6-3 with an Ana Beatriz attack and Juliana Costa ace, then pushed to an 8-4 lead at the first technical timeout on a Correa ace. Silva attacked the Mirador defense to create a 10-5 advantage. Sollys Nestle extended the margin to 14-8 following Mirador’s sixth error of the set leading a timeout. Samara Almeida blocked a Mirador attack and Correa scored over the block to inch the lead to 16-8 at the second technical timeout. Out of the break Karine Souza became the seventh Sollys Nestle player to score in the set with a block followed by an Almeida spike at 18-8. Mirador would score just one additional point the rest of the set as Sollys Nestle won 25-9 on a 13-1 scoring run. Almeida totaled six points for Sollys Nestle in the first set and her team held a 4-0 block advantage. Sollys Nestle converted 11 of 18 attacks without a hitting error in the set.

Juliana Costa served an ace to yield an early 2-0 lead for Sollys Nestle in the second set. Silva added another ace at 4-1 following a Mirador service error. Almeida scored on a spike and Ivna Marra tallied the third ace of the set for a 6-2 advantage. Marianne Fersola attacked off the Sollys Nestle block to pull Mirador to within two at 9-7. However, Sollys Nestle bounced back with a Marra spike, Costa ace and Silva block to create a 12-7 lead. Correa served Sollys Nestle’s fifth ace of the set to place the score at 19-11 at a Mirador timeout. Sollys Nestle cruised the rest of the set to a 25-13 victory. Costa led Sollys Nestle with five points in the set. Sollys Nestle converted 65 percent of their attacks in the second set.

Sollys Nestle grabbed a 5-0 lead to begin the third set after a Costa block and two aces around an Almeida block. Celenia Toribio De Leon put up a block to cut the deficit to 5-2. Sollys Nestle responded with the next three points to take an 8-2 lead into the technical timeout. Sollys Nestle reached the second technical timeout with a double-digit lead at 16-6. Sollys Nestle out-scored Mirador 9-2 the rest of the match for a 25-8 victory.
