France snatch thrilling 3-2 win over Bulgaria
Bulgaria, who finished 5th in the last edition of the World League loses at home in a five set thriller to World Championship bronze medallists France. Bulgaria got off to a great start on the back of some excellent play from middleblockers Hristo Tzvetanov and E.Ivanov to win the first set 25:20. However, the weakest part of the Bulgarian game - its defense - was exposed in the following two sets. France, withour regular captain Dominique Daquin and libero Herbert Henno, exploited every opportunity to grab the next two sets with Laurent Carpet, playing one of his best matches for the Tri Colours, especially profiting as he went on to score 20 points for the match, one behind the game high of 21 from captain Stephane Antiga. Bulgaria fought back to snatch a thrilling fourth set that went to 29 points with Tzvetanov particularly effective. At two sets apiece, it was the experience and skill of France which pipped Bulgaria for the honours to set the visiters' World League campaign off to a good start.
