Brazil celebrate their victory over Italy

Ningbo, China, August 28, 2010 - Brazil kept alive their hopes of winning the FIVB World Grand Prix finals title for the third straight time after beating Italy in straight sets on Saturday.

Following the 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 victory, the two-time defending champions now have a 2-2 win-loss record in the six-team round-robin tournament. USA are on top with a 3-0 win-loss record, followed by China (2-1). The latter two teams will meet in the last match on Saturday.

Aided by three service aces, Brazil opened the first set with a 7-2 lead. As the match went to, the two hard-hitting teams exchanged powerful spikes but Brazil managed to hold onto the lead firmly until the end of the set.

The Italians hit better form in the opening stage of the second set and were just 8-7 down at the first TTO. From then on, however, the match turned into a lop-sided affair as the Brazilian trio of Natalia Pereira, Jaqueline Carvalho and Sheilla Castro bombarded their opponents with an array of bullet-like spikes.

The third set was a similar situation as Italy could only put up a fight in the beginning. When the Brazilians were 24-16 in front, Natalia Pereira delivered a cross-court spike for the winner.
