Colorado, USA, February 15, 2010 – Jane Collymore, a member of the USA team during last year’s FIVB World Championship qualifiers, has her eye on regaining her spot in the US national team for this year’s FIVB World Grand Prix in August having recovered from hip surgery.
The outside hitter has been out of action since October last year following the surgery for a recurring injury and has a tough assignment ahead of her with some more experienced players, who missed last year’s campaign, also expected to be in the running for the national squad.
“I hope to be back with the national team by mid-summer,†Collymore, who also expressed hopes to be part of the USA team at the FIVB Women’s World Championship in Japan later this year, said. “In late April or early May I will be able to start jumping again.
“The process of rehabilitation is about baby steps, daily consistency and lots of patience but the surgery was definitely worth it. For the first time in almost three years I can walk and move without grinding pain.â€
The other reason 26-year-old Jane, who took part in the FIVB 2006 World Grand Prix where USA finished a disappointing seventh, hopes to be ready for the premier women’s international annual competition is the opportunity to play with younger sister Jill Collymore for the first time.
“It was really fun to be with Jill last month [at the USA National Team Center]†said the eldest Collymore sister. “We have never played together on the same team other than a pickup match, so it was a mini-dream come true. It has been fun to watch Jill’s progression in the game.â€
Twenty-three-year-old Jill was recently part of USA’s trip to China where they played local top club Evergrande, who are coached by former U.S. Olympic Team Coach “Jenny†Lang Ping.
