Poland beat Thailand 3-0 (25-19 25-23 25-20)
Thailand started an attack right from the whistle, but the greater experience of European champions Poland still proved too much for the less-trained Thais. Hard-hitting Katarzyna Skowronska, who led the team with 18 points including 14 kills and two great serves, was instrumental in lifting Poland the first-set win 25-19.

Cheered on by home fans all the way, the Thai girls continued their strong challenge in the second set. Promising Wilavan Apinyapong pierced into the Polish defence with her exceptional spikes to help the team close the margin 19-19. As Poland, stretching the lead to 23-20 a moment earlier, became more prone with blocking and spiking errors, the host side played cool under pressure and stormed on with mighty attacks to come close at 22-23. However, Poland allowed them only one more point to win the hotly-contested set 25-23.

Poland still gained the upper hand in the third set to lead 16-13, but Thailand counter-attacked to reduce the gap at 21-19. Showing no mercy to the host girls, Poland attacked relentlessly to win the set 25-20 and the thrilling match.
