China dominated with size and quickness

Supported by a good crowd, China won the Asian battle over Japan

Tijuana, Mexico, October 11, 2013 – China played even faster than Japan to claim the victory against their Asian rivals after a close battle for the first two sets.

Di Yao, captain of China: It was really a tough match and we had very good preparation before it. At the beginning these two teams more or less played the same. Japan had very good defense. We are very happy to win this match and tomorrow we will do our best at the finals.

Kanami Tashiro, captain of Japan: Chinese players have long reach and play very fast. We felt very nervous at this match and we couldn’t concentrate.

Xu Jandie, coach of China: Though we won the game, the Japanese team had a better technique. So we learned more from them. I think our players are taller than the Japanese players and that was a key factor.

Shigekazu Okubo, coach of Japan: Congratulations to China for the victory. We started playing very well, but the Chinese team just waited for us and played very calmed. The championship was played at a great level and at this level it is very difficult to keep concentration, but for our players it was a great experience.
