Turkey captain Damla Cakiroglu: my past, present and dreams for the future

Damla Cakiroglu is the captain of Turkey at Womens' U20 World Championship in Brno. Just turned nineteen and eager to show her passion: "I hope to play the next Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 with my team"

Brno, Czech republic, June 22, 2013 - She just turned nineteen at the 17th edition of the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship but she is already a volleyball star in her country: Damla Cakiroglu is the captain of Turkey here in Czech Republic, and she tells about her past, present and future on the volleyball court.

"We have won all the most important tournament as a Junior Team in last years (World Championship and European Championship for two times) so we are here to win again this tournament that will be our last in this category" Damla says. "We came to Brno not feeling the pressure of being the one to beat, but we know that all the other teams want to defeat us" she continues "so we have to be much stronger than the others to show our level."

About the competition started yesterday in Brno she says: "We know our level as a team and we are here to improve as much as we can to try to win this tournament together. We worked hard and we will keep on training hard to be ready to meet the other teams that are the best in the world. We have already played against most of them in the past, but every year we can see their improvements, so we have to grow also ourselves".

She is the captain of her National Team, and she reveals to be proud of it: "I am really honored to be the captain of my team, but it is a big responsibility because you have to cheer up your team-mates even if there are difficult moments. This is not so easy as it seems to be. On the other hand, I know them so I know we can turn our bad moments into good very fast, I really trust them one by one!"

After this World Championship Damla will probably pass in the senior national team. "I hope to be chosen also for the senior national team, it would be a dream come true, every girls playing volleyball wants to be part of that team. I hope to play the next Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 with my team, the Olympics are the top of any athlete’s career, so I will work hard to be there, and I hope to be together with my current team-mates, will be awesome!"

After the second win in a row at the 2013 FIVB Women’s World Championship, Damla and her team are in a good position to go ahead in the tournament that she dreams to win.
