The exploits of Altagracia Mambru sent the Dominican Republic to an 8-2 lead that kept mounting thanks to the powerful attack of Dahiana Burgos and Sidarka Nunez. One ace of Bethania de la Cruz closed the first set.
Cindy Rondon's spike broke a tie leading to the first technical time-out. The margin in favour of the Dominicans was minimum at 13-12, but three points from Ginette del Rosario improved to 16-13 and the set took a definitive route ending with two aces by Mambru.
Egypt led 8-7 in the third set taking advantage of some opponent errors, but at the second time-out the Dominicans were ahead 16-13 with Nunez and de la Cruz providing most of the points. The rest was history.
