Using typical characteristics Japanese sides in the past - dexterity, hard work, discipline, and an endeavor to bring out players’ individual personalities – the side hope to fight fiercely point by point, match by match at the tournament. There is no doubt that each player has tremendous capability of volleyball talent.
Furthermore the side will play a brand of fast volleyball which has traditionally been a big part of how Japan play.
Horikawa, who was a member of the Youth Girls’ World Championship squad in 2009, will captain the side.

It has not been long since our team was brought together but they hope to make the most of their team spirit.

Leading the side will be coach Yasuhiro Fukuda.

Coach profile

Yasuhiro Fukuda, 38, is an enthusiastic volleyball coach. Fukuda started playing volleyball in 1985 at the age of 13 for his junior high school volleyball club team and it is no exaggeration to say that since then he has been devoted to volleyball. In 1995, at the age of 23, after his graduating from university, Fukuda firstly took up coaching volleyball at the HITACHI (Belles Filles) women’s volleyball club in Tokyo for six years, as an assistant coach, from 1995 through 2001.

After that, Fukuda continued coaching volleyball for other teams and is constantly promoting his coaching skills.
He was appointed as coach of the Japanese junior women’s national team for the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship and his coaching methods have a good reputation.

The coach said that he hopes to do well at the tournament to bring hope and joy to those who were victims of the Japanese earthquake earlier this year.
