Brazil's SESI-SP overwhelm Volero Zurich to capture Women's Club World Championship bronze

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graca F° honoured Zurich captain Mira Golubovic after she retired

Zurich, Switzerland, May 11, 2014 - Brazil's SESI-SP fought bravely for 124 minutes to overcome hosts Volero Zurich of Switzerland and win 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13) to capture the bronze medal during the third place match of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship at Saalsporthalle in Zurich, Switzerland on Sunday.

After the match FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graca F° honoured Volero's captain Mira Golubovic who announced her retirement with the FIVB prize in acknowledgment of her 22 years on the volleyball court.

Behind the offense of the winners was Ivna Marra, who led her team players in the game with 20 points, followed by Fabiana Claudino 18 points. From the loser side Volero's scoring machine Kenia Carcaces had impressive 22 points to lead also the match scorers followed by the opposite Olesia Rykhliuk 17 points.

The match started with more motivations from SESI-SP who received well and had greater advantage to build up the attacks specially the quick attacks through the center Fabiana Claudino who made a constant danger for Volero. SESI went to a double score 8-4 at the FTT. Volero tried to come back through the spikes of Kenia Caceres, but the Brazilian team was more insisting to win the set 25-18.

The second set was more competitive as Volero started to come back with the skillful combinations led by the setter Karine De Souza depending on the quick attacks of Mira Golubovic and also the high attacks through wing spiker Kenia Carcaces. SESI led 8-3 through the opposite Ivna Marra but Volero came back with their service beside the attacks through the opposite Olesia Rykhliuk to decrease the point deficit to 16-14 at the second TTO. Volero's performance rose to the utmost when they fought bravely to win the set 25-20 to draw 1-1.

 Volero maintained the rhythm at the beginning of the set till SESI came back with their proper blocking and started to discipline their backline defence to advance in the first TTO 8-6. SESI improved their quick attacks through Ana Beatriz to lead 16-12 before they won the set 25-21 to lead 2-1.

 In the fourth set SESI started ahead deploying their solid block through Ana and Fabiana, but Volero stayed closely with frequent substitutions done by the coaches and with some emotions from the spectators they led closely in the second TTO 16-15. SESI big weapon Ivna started to work again as they led 22-20 before Volero fought bravely to overcome the 2 point deficit in their way to win the set 25-23 and draw 2-2.

 In the tiebreak Volero maintained their motivations to lead 2-1 before volero came to draw 4-4. With Volero's tight block they led 8-7 at the court turn. Kenia Carcaces played their best as she scored a lot of decisive points so they led 12-11 before Ivna led SESI to historic come back to win 15-13 with a brave savings to clinch the bronze medal.
