2007 FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship

Press Conference

It was a do-or-die situation for India

IRAN

Captain Ashkan Derakhshan: "All the sets were very good, but after winning the first one, we relaxed and India played very well. Number 3 (Mandeep Singh) is a very good player with a lot of skills. The last time we faced India was during the Asian Championship and we won 3-0. Maybe after winning the first set, we were recalling that match against them."

Head Coach Cvetkovic Jovica: "We played a very good first set but the repeated the same mistakes of yesterday against Brazil. We committed many errors and allowed India to make a come back. Against Brazil we found a way to escape and get the victory but was not the case today against India."

INDIA

Captain Mandeep Singh: "The team of Iran is the Asian Champion and we beat them today, but more important is we got one victory. If we had lost we were out of the tournament. I think the key for the win was the first pass to create good and strong attacking opportunities for us."

Head Coach Bir Singh Yadav: "It was a do-or-die situation for us. A loss would have sent us waiting for another World Championship so it was a compulsory victory. Our captain played extraordinarily well and also other players of the team performed according to what I expected."
