Russia downed Mexico in a one-sided match
 

The blocking of Russia stopped Mexico

MEXICALI, Mexico, Agust 25, 2007.- Russia trounced host Mexico in straight sets 25-12, 25-13, 25-16, advancing to a match against Germany for the ninth position.

Ruslan Moskvin led Russia with 14 points and Alexey Yashchishin and Sergey Burtsev added 12 and 10 respectively. Martin Petris had 8 for the host Mexicans.

The first two sets were completely dominated by the Russian side relying on its strong serves and high blocking under the leadership of Moskvin and Shcherbinin.

In the third set, Russia took an early lead of 8-5 with Artem Volvich now producing some impressive blocking. The Mexicans reacted and presented some resistance on the way to the second technical time-out, but Burtsev and Yashchishin extended the margin to four points at 16-12.
