MEXICALI, Mexico, August 25, 2007.- Armando Danger led three Cubans in double figures in the 3-2 victory over Egypt in the round for the 13-16 places. The scores were 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 15-6.
Danger recorded 30 points, including 4 blocks and one serving ace, and Rolando Cepeda and Yaniel Mederos contributed 18 and 16 points respectively. Ahmed Mohammed was the Egyptian leading scorer with 24.
Cepeda had five aces added to his leading total for the competition, and Mederos was credited with 3 more.
Danger was positive in 26 of 48 spiking attempts while Mederos went 13-for-20 and Cepeda landed 13 out of 27.
Cuba gave away 40 points in errors but was able to overcome the adversity of losing the first two sets and dominated its opponent during the rest of the match.
The Cubans outplayed the Egyptians in the blocking category (11-5) and in the serves department (9-3).
