MEXICALI, Mexico, August 25, 2007.- Hamza Rezgui and Annouer Ben Jamaa had 17 and 15 points respectively in leading Tunisia to a 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 25-20)victory over USA in a match for the positions 13-16.
Ckokri Jouini and Aymen Karqui added 12 and 11 points to the Tunisian scoring, while Bradley Lawson and Tyler Jaynes led the Americans with 14 and 10 tallies respectively.
The attacks by Anouer Ben Jamaa, Aymen Karqui and Chokri Jouidi gave Tunisia the victory in the first set 25-22. One block by Ben Mansour followed by spike from Karqui, were the last blows of the African team. Tyler Jaynes was the top American performer.
Tunisia took an 8-5 lead in the second thanks to the offensive job by Hamza Rezgui and Ben Jamaa. The Tunisians preserved the margin at 16-13. Then, the Americans tied at 18-all helped by two aces of Bradley Lawson and the spikes of Troy. Teams remained tied until one spike by Rezgui followed by block by Jouini gave Tunisia the 26-24 win.
In the third set, both teams played closely with USA taking the lead 8-7 at the first pause. The Americans continued ahead 16-15 behind solid blocking and Lawson’s spike to break a 15-all tie. One block by Jaynes followed by two opponent’s errors extended the advantage to 19-15 and USA cruised to the win 25-19.
Tunisia grabbed the lead 8-3 in the third set. The match continued with the same rhythm and Tunisia led 16-10 at the second stop with Ben Jamaa carrying the load of the attack. Rezgui added to the margin with one spike when the action resumed, and Tunisia went on to take the set 25-20.
