India surprised and beat Iran 3-1 in an all Asian clash (18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19)
 

India stunned the Asian champion

Iran led 8-4 and stretched it to 16-10 thanks to the brilliant play of setter and captain Ashkan Derakhshan and the spikes of Ghiasi Mojtaba. India seemed losing steam and only tried to short the distance through Singh Mandeep in the attacking, but anyway Iran was much more focused and win the first set 25-18 with a good work of Iranian Alireza Jadidi.

In the second set, India took command initially to lead 8-5 and 16-10 through Singh Sukhdeep and Singh Balwinder. India avenged the loss with almost the same margin 25-17 against a slow and unknown Iranian team.

India maintained their form in the third set and improved on their serves, spiking and blocking through Sanjamanath Girigoud leading 8-6. But Iran woke and bounced back mightily draw and lead 11-9. From that moment a row of thrilling draws alight the fans at the Tijuana hall with exciting Volleyball, until India recovered 14-13 and reached the second technical time out with advantage of 16-14. Asian champions keep on putting pressure over India defense but not enough to stop their victory 25-21.

India continued their remarkable run in the fourth set and lead 8-7. Iran tried to force a tie-breaker so the head coach Cvetkovic put his top guns in the court; nevertheless this was useless because India fired up until 16-11 through the strength of captain Singh Mandeep. Iran fought with all they have and shorten the distance 18-15 and 20-18. But India was in their best day of the tournament; they reached the match point and won 25-19. The match lasted 97 minutes and the best scorer was Singh Mandeep with 31 points.
