2007 FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship
Match Description
Poland overwhelms Puerto Rico in straight sets (25-22, 31-29, 25-15)

Poland dashed any hopes Puerto Rico may have had for a berth in the second round. The European team beat their North American rivals, who seemed tired from their previous evening's five sets against Cuba.

With the strong serving of Lukasz Polanski and with Krzywiecki Maciej contributing powerfully in the attack, Poland got early leads in the first and finished on fairly comfortable 25-22, despite the efforts of Puerto Rico side through Emanuel Batista and Ulises Maldonado.

In the second set, Puerto Rico tried to fight back leading 8-5 and 16-14 thanks to the good work of Omar Rivera, but Poland showed all their fierce and solid blocks through Mateusz Jasinski and fight point by point until draw from 24-24 to 29-29 when the spectacular Fabian Drzyzga forced the 31-29.

In the third set, Poland was stronger than ever and led in the score from the beginning 8-3 and 16-9. Caribbean players seem disappointed and surrender to the Polish attack that continued through 25-15 completing their straight-set victory. Mateusz Jasinski and Ulises Maldonado were the best scorers of the match with 15 points each.

The result qualifies Poland to the second round in Tijuana, while Puerto Rico will stay in Mexicali to play for the 9-16 positions.
