Japan coach Ogawa: Today was proof smaller Japanese can beat taller USA

Japan head coach Yoshiki Ogawa: "I’m very happy that we beat the USA. It’s a good proof that even though we are smaller players, we can beat the much taller rivals. We now have to train more, learning from the mistakes we made in the previous matches and aim higher for matches in the top eight round. Whether our performance will be good or not depends upon the setter. If she plays well, our performance will also be good."

Captain Chisato Mitsuyama: "We have to practise more to get ready for the much tougher competition in the quarter-finals. A tough task awaits our team out there, but we will try our best."

USA head coach James Stone: "We did not play well. It’s not a competitive match. I want my girls to learn from the mistakes they made in order that they can improve their game in the remaining matches. We had a chance to win the first set, but we could not do that as Japan played very well on their aggressive offence. As Japan are getting better and better, our form is gradually worsening. As far as I see them play, Japan is very fast. We served well, but their defence is also good."

Captain Carly Wopat: "We have to continue training. I want my team to come up with the improved form. Our form is not that good in the match against Japan. The Japanese are very quick, while our defence is still bad."
