Cuba wins last WL game 3-1 over Bulgaria in Havana

Havana.- Cuba won its last WL match 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22) over Bulgaria in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Havana's Ciudad Deportiva Hall, thus improving their performance from last year.
In the first set, the young local squad showed an efficient attack over their rivals' defense errors to win 25-20, despite failing eigth serves.
The Balkam team, led by Vladimir Nikolov, reacted and took an early 11-9 advantange and went on to tie the score 25-17.
In the third period, the Eastern Europeans seemed to be on the way to win with an 8-5 lead, but Cuba- helped by setter Javier Gonzalez' three point serves- scored seven consecutive points and took control of the game 12-8. Evgeni Ivanov's efficient attack and serve put his country again in contention 12-10. The score stayed even until Yosleider Cala and Osmany Juantorena's succesful attacks gave Cuba a 21-19 advantage, which they preserved to win 25-23.
Inspired by their performance, Cubans maintained their good on court performance and started ahead 12-7. Bulgarians closed in 17-19, but failed three serves and paved the way for Cuba's win 25-22 to give a good final impression in front of their fans.
As usual, Tomas Aldazabal led the local team with 26 points, followed by Yosleider Cala (16) and 17-year old Osmany Juantorena (11). Vladimir Nikolov scored 19 points and was supported by Plamen Konstantinov (17) and Evgeni Ivanov (11).
