Czech Republic do double over France
Following Saturday's error-ridden performance, France played with patience and the minimum of errors to cruise through the first set 25-19. But the Czech Republic coach Pavel Rerabek changed his setter Zapletal with Tichacek for the second set and the Czech Republic responded immediately. Their play went up a couple of notches and their play was much better, however the loss of one of their most important players, Lebl, due to injury, shaded in the second set win.
That signalled the time for French coach Philippe Blain to change his setter and that instigated a third set win to his team but the Czech Repubic, on the back of a passionate and vocal home crowd, svaed the match by sneaking the fourth set 26-24 before squeezing out the winner 18-16 in sensational circumstances.
A big blos for France but encouraging performances for the Czech Republic and two wins well deserved.
