China Crush Cuba 3-0 to finish top at World Grand Prix Ningbo Leg

Olympic champions China overwhelmed cuba with a straight-sets victory (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) Sunday at the FIVB World Grand Prix Ningbo leg.

China started off well in the first set as they jumped to 4-1 lead before extending the advantage to six points at 14-8. The Cubans edged closer to 16-13 after the second technical timeout, only to see China pull away again to 23-15 with a 7-2 run. Trailing 24-17, Cuba staved off two set points but Rosir Calderon then served long to allow China to take the set 25-19.

In the second set, Cuba took an early 5-2 lead and stretched it to 8-4.  The Chinese girls, cheered on by about 8,000 home spectators, clawed back to level at 14-14. When both teams were locked at 18-all, a kill by Yang Hao put China in front for the first time in the set.  China never trailed thereafter and took the hard-fought set 25-23.

Once again, it was Cuba emerged as the early leader (4-0), but China came good after the shaky opening to level it at 10-all.  The hosts never looked dangerous from then on and won the set 25-19.
