Match Description
Cuba stages impressive rally to beat Poland in five sets

In the first set, Cuba committed too many errors and Poland soon raced to an 8-3 lead. After the first technical timeout, Poland led by at least four points throughout before closing the set at 25-18.

Th Cubans got off to a highly flying start in the second set as they led 4-0 when Poland coach Ryszard Niemczyk called a timeout.  After the timeout, Poland managed to cut the gap to one point at 5-4 and then overtook the lead at 10-9. Thereafter, the match turned into a see-saw situation as the lead changed hands five times. When the scored was tied 25-25, Poland took two straight points to make it 2-0 in sets.

Cuba started off the third set aggressively and went into the first technical timeout with a 4-point lead (8-4). On back of impressive spiking and serving, Cuba never looked dangerous after that and pulled one set back with ease.

Cuba maintained their momentum in the fourth set and took it 25-16 to put the match into the deciding fifth set.

After establishing a 5-3 lead in the fifth set, Cuba looked upstoppable before a disappointing Polish team.  When leading at 14-9, a spike by Rosir Calderon from the left flank sealed the match for Cuba.
