CHN shows supermach over USA, Thrashing the spirited rivals in straight sets 25:22, 25:17, 25:18
Seeking their supremacy in their second round-robin preliminaries of the World Grand Prix, China got solid performances from their starters to race to the initial 6-1 lead in the first set thanks toYang Hao's powerful attack hits and stuff blocks from Zhao Ruirui and Zhang Jing. However, USA pulled their game together, with Danielle Scott, who won the last year's Best Scorer and Best Blocker Awards, amazing the rivals with her exceptional spikes to narrow the gap 21-20. Still, the Americans could not stop the Chinese onslaught, with an awesome display by Yang and Zhang. China took the first set 25-22. Their confidence sky-high after the opening-set win, China rolled on their aggressive streak to take the commanding 22-15 lead in the second set. Yang and Zhao took turns penetrating the American defence with their sharp spikes to help the team clinch the comfortable set 25-17. The rhythm was still with the Chinese girls in the third set. Yang jumped like flying to spike devastatingly to put the team in front 8-2. Despite putting up a sturdy challenge, the USA still became more prone with unforced errors to trail 20-14. China later rested their best players and instead fielded those from the bench including Song Nina. Their power-and-speed style still proved too much for the rivals. China took the third set 25-18 and the match.
