Brazil defeats Japan in 3 sets
Brazil outplayed Japan, 25-18, 25-23, 27-25 for its first win in the Manila leg.

With Welissa Gonzaga doing the attack and Valeska Menezes and Lucaina Nascimento taking charge in blocking, the Brazilians dominated the first set.

Japan fought back in the second set, banking on Miyuki Takahashi's wll-placed serves and Chikako Kjumamae's powerful spikes to take an 18-13 lead before Brazil went to Pala Pequena and Gonzaga to prevail, 25-23.

Miyuki continued to play well as the Japanese kept their form in the third set, leading several times before the Brazilians, powered by Menezesa and Nascimento, caught up with them and took the upperhand at 13-10.

Japan, led by Ai Otomo and Sachiko Sugiyama, ralllied to tie the count at 21-all and the two teams battled to forur more deadlocks before Brazil scored two straight points to win the match.

Gonzaga led Brazil with 14 points, 11 from attacks, while Nascimento had 13 points, including four blocks.

Takahashi had 16 points, 13 from attacks, Kumamae had 14 points also from attacks while Sugiyama had three block
