Practice makes perfect for Korea

Osaka, Japan, November 7, 2007: Comments from the official FIVB press conference after the Thailand-Korea game on Wednesday.

Korea

Head Coach Lee Jung-Chul: Last year and this year we lost a game with Thailand, so today we were really determined to win. Currently we have many injured players so we could not prepare well enough, but our setter was really good. She did an excellent job, and also our centre players were good with blocking. I know Thailand have good ability but they could not play like themselves.

Captain Kim Sa-Nee: We had the experience of playing Thailand in the Asian Championship recently and we lost, so we were determined to beat them this time. We had a good block and that was a key to our victory. We knew the Thais had a lot of attacking patterns and individual skills, but we were prepared to respond to anything they did. It worked well.

Thailand

Head Coach Nataphon Srisamutnak: In the Asian Championship we could win and our team is mostly the same, but the Korean team had more new players and they played very well. Especially the setter was really good and experienced, and could turn a bad ball into a good ball and make an attack.

Captain Wilavan Apinyapong: Our biggest problem was that we made many mistakes, whereas Korea played perfectly with very few errors. That was the difference. We are still in good spirits. This is our first World Cup and whether we win or lose does not matter because we are all gaining from the experience.
