Czech Republic trounces Venezuela

Tijuana, Mexico, July 21, 2009 – Czech Republic progressed to a 2-0 record in Pool H by trouncing Venezuela 25-18, 25-12, 25-9 in just over one hour of work.

Alena Honkova had four blocks among her 11 points and Tereza Vanzurova also tallied 11 points in the winning effort. Pavla Vincourova landed eight points, half of them via aces.

Czech Republic commanded 8-3 and 16-13 at the technical time-out of the first set. The Europeans established strong blocking led by Vanzurova and also their serves caused damage to Venezuelan’s reception. Honkova and Vanzurova paced the Czech’s attack while Mariangel Perez was the standout for Venezuela in the opening set which ended 25-18 in favor of Czech Republic.

The blocking of the taller Czechs grew up even higher in the second set preventing Venezuela from developing its game plan. The score at the first stop was 8-7 in favor of the South Americans but the advantage did not last very long and the second pause found the Czechs in front 16-9. The second set finished 25-12.

The third set took the same route with the Czechs in front 8-3 and 16-8. The Czechs increased the power and location of their serves and easily finished the set and the match by score of 25-9 with an ace from Blanka Preslova.
