Coach Rezende pleased with intensity in Brazil's victory

Brazil mentor Bernardo Rezende was very happy with the quality his team displayed on Friday evening along the way to a straight victory over hosts Japan

Tokyo, Japan, November 22, 2013 – On Friday Brazil claimed their third consecutive victory in the tournament as they beat hosts Japan in straight sets to assert their ambition to claim a third consecutive – and fourth overall – title in the Men’s World Grand Champions Cup.

Brazil coach Benardo Rezende said
: “It was a good match. We started strong and played tactically well. They played better in the second set and they put pressure on us. We made some mistakes on attack in the second set.  I like the intensity we are playing with. We may not have as much talent as in the past, but the intensity is good. We are playing the Brazilian way. Tomorrow will be a great test for us against Russia.”

Japan coach Gary Sato commented: “We had a good early practice today and the players had a meeting. They figured out what they needed to do. Things clicked for us in the second set. We usually don't face this kind of speed in this region, so we have to adjust to that. We executed some things well. The players are feeling more comfortable. This is a good tournament for us. We have to play against the best to improve.”

Brazil captain Bruno Rezende: “We did our job tonight. We beat a good team from Japan. The second set was tough. We made some mistakes on serve. We did a good job on our side-out. Tomorrow is a tough match against Russia.”

Japan captain Kota Yamamura: “Tonight was the match we lost the least point in this tournament. They were able to seize on our errors and score consistently. We did have good moments and would like to build on these.”
Japan player Yusuke Ishijima: “We talked before the match today about uniting in a team meeting. We had some good moments. We were stopped by Brazil’s height and skill. We will review for the next match and try to improve.”

Japan player Yu Koshikawa: “Although we lost 3-0, we learned the most from this match. We confirmed our formations against a top team like Brazil. The team meeting this morning focused our competitive spirit. We want to think individually what we can do to improve our team.”
