Rome, June 17, 2011 – By the end of Saturday, the lineups for both the men’s and women’s finals at the FIVB Swatch World Championships Rome 2011 powered by smart will be known.
In the men’s competition newly installed favourites Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego are in line to meet defending champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the semifinals, providing they overcome tricky quarterfinal opponents.
Alison and Emanuel take on fellow Brazilians Rhooney Ferramenta and Pedro Salgado, while Brink and Reckermann’s reward for knocking out No. 1 seeds Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser is a match against Poland’s Mariusz Prudel and Grzegorz Fijalek
Women’s favourites Larissa Franca and Juliana Felisberta Silva must overcome the Czech Republic’s Hana Klapalova and Lenka Hajeckova if they are to end their quest to finally win a World Championships gold medal.
In the other semifinal, three-time champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh face China’s eighth-seed pairing of Chen Xue and Xi Zhang.
