2011 Junior World Championships | Women
  31/08/2011 - 4/09/2011

Halifax, Canada will welcome the stars of the future as it hosts the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championships from August 31-September 4.

It is the first time the event will be held in Canada and, along with the double-gender World Tour event taking place in Quebec from July 19-24, marks the first time the North American country has hosted an FIVB beach volleyball event since 2007 when Montreal played host to the world’s top tandems.

However on this occasion it will be tomorrow’s top players competing in what has become an annual staple for beach volleyball fans across the world. Last year the Junior World Championships took place in Alanya, Turkey with Garrett May and Sam Schachter making history by becoming the first Canadian pair to not only reach the final four of the ten-year old competition, but also win it as they downed Brazilian duo Vitor Felipe and Alvaro Filho. USA’s Tara Roenicke and Summer Ross sealed the women’s title with a win over Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi. With the victory, Ross became the first athlete to win both the Youth and Junior World Championships.

This year’s five day tournament will see over 400 delegates and athletes from more than 30 countries take part in the event which will take place on the Halifax waterfront with organizers already saying they are hoping the event will be the highlight of the summer for the city.
