Medical Commission focuses on volleyball’s anti-doping programme for 2019

The FIVB Medical Commission met via videoconference on Thursday

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 14, 2018 - The FIVB Medical Commission met via videoconference yesterday to discuss the development of sports medicine in volleyball, particularly identifying ways of combatting doping within the sport.

The Commission discussed previous anti-doping testing administration methods and proposed changes and initiatives for 2019. The group also heard reports on the 2018 volleyball and beach volleyball competitions, as well as an update on the activities from the FIVB’s Continental Medical Commissions.

Medical Commission President, Dr. Annie Peytavin and Commission Secretary, Dr. Bruno Borges da Fonseca, held a very successful meeting with the members of the Commission using the FIVB’s videoconference platform. This is the second commission taking place remotely, following the FIVB Legal Commission earlier this week.

Following the meeting, FIVB President Ary S. Graça F° said:
“The safety and well-being of our athletes is a primary concern and the Medical Commission plays a central role in ensuring the demands on our stars are managed closely. Today was a great opportunity to assess current methods and look to the future of our sport.”

The FIVB will continue to hold the remainder of its annual commissions throughout January and February 2019.
