Kira Walkenhorst aims to return to the beach volleyball courts in 2020
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 6, 2019 - An Olympic and world champion with Laura Ludwig, Kira Walkenhorst announced her retirement from beach volleyball due to ongoing injury in January. But in case you've missed it, her retirement could soon be a thing of the past. "I'll be back!!! See you at the beach in 2020!" she says. So watch this space!

The 28-year-old German won gold at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games in tandem with Ludwig. A year on they added the world title to their collection when they topped the podium at the Austria 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and went on to complete an incredible season with gold at the World Tour Finals in Hamburg.

Following Walkenhorst's retirement at the beginning of the year, Ludwig partnered with Margareta ‘Maggie’ Kozuch with the new pair claiming a spectacular victory at the 2019 World Tour Finals in Rome in their first season together.
