Brouwer and Meeuwsen line up to defend Doha gold

Meeuwsen (left) and Brouwer are aiming for more gold in Doha
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 11, 2019 – Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen will return to Doha in March to defend the 4-Star Katara Open gold that they won in 2018.

The tournament will run from March 12-16 at the Katara Cultural Village to the north of Qatar’s capital.

The Dutch pair’s victory in Doha was one of two gold medals that they won on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in 2018 and came when they defeated Russia’s Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Ilya Velichko in the final.

The Mazury 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships gold medallists will be one of two Dutch teams competing in the Middle East, along with Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde who make their World Tour debut as a team.

Varenhorst’s former partner Reinder Nummerdor will coach both teams as they continue their preparations for the Hamburg 2019 World Championships which run from June 28 – July 7.
