FIVB President meets senior Turkmenistan sports officials

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 7, 2018 – FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° met with a senior delegation from Turkmenistan yesterday alongside the FIVB 2nd Executive Vice-President, Mr. Aleksandar Boricic, to discuss the development of volleyball in their country.

The delegation, led by the Deputy Sports and Youth Policy Minister of Turkmenistan, Mr. Parahat Agayev, included the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Switzerland, Mr. Atageldi Haljanov, and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Azat Myradov.

The country’s senior representatives expressed their interest in hosting volleyball and beach volleyball international and regional events in Turkmenistan as the sport is very popular in the country, has a strong fanbase, and has good infrastructure and sports facilities. Turkmenistan has strong hosting credentials having most recently staged the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017 and the 2018 IWF World Championships.

The FIVB President said during the meeting:
“We are delighted that volleyball is one of the most popular team sports in Turkmenistan and, of course, we are open to spreading our beloved sport in Central Asia. Following the successful events that Turkmenistan has hosted, I am sure it is ready to further develop volleyball and beach volleyball. We have a number of junior and senior events that all our National Federations (NF) are invited to host and we welcome the NF of Turkmenistan to participate in the bidding process.”
