Nemanja Petric: It probably looks like it was an easy game but it was not for sure

Serbia celebrating the win

Varna, Bulgaria, September 22, 2018 - Serbia achieved their sixth consecutive win at the 2018 FIVB World Championship after beating Argentina in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-22) in Pool H. Thus the Balkans keep their chances to top the standings. They might do it as early as tonight but it depends on the result of the second game for today Poland – France.

Nikola Grbic, head coach of Serbia: „It was a really difficult match because of many reasons. First of all we played a very tough previous game against France and it was hard to be fully concentrated and aggressive again. On the other hand we faced Argentina who beat Poland yesterday and it is a very dangerous opponent. We made a great comeback in the third set because all the players who came in gave a new energy and enthusiasm on the court. I am very proud of their performance.”

Nemanja Petric, captain of Serbia: „It probably looks like it was an easy game but it was not for sure because we were expected to get the maximum points from the match. We are happy that we managed to do it. The win is really important because now we have the chance to top the pool. Tomorrow we will face Poland in a straight clash for the first place. We are going to play our best volleyball for sure!”

Nikola Jovovic, player of Serbia: “I think Argentina was a little bit tired from the late match yesterday. I can say that we were too, but they did not manage to play that good as yesterday like we did. This game was really strange. Both teams made a lot of mistakes and we just were the team who made a little bit less mistakes. We did not show great volleyball, but in the end it is a very important win for us. Now it is more certain than not that we are going to be in the final six and that is really good for our team. We would like to defeat Poland tomorrow, that is for sure. We are always fighting and trying to give our best. It will be a great feeling to win seven games in a row.”

Luciano De Cecco, captain of Argentina: “Congratulations to Serbia. They played a good game today. Unfortunately, we have some players with injuries and we have to recover really well for tomorrow. It is going to be the last game, so we will give our best and will see what is going to happen.”
