Top coaches share thoughts on inaugural VNL

 
FIVB President Graça chaired the meeting on Friday
 
Lausanne, Switzerland, August 28, 2018 – The FIVB invited coaches to provide their feedback on the inaugural Volleyball Nations League (VNL) as part of the Federation’s ongoing commitment to delivering the very best competition for athletes, coaches and fans.

Coaches from around the world joined FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° in-person in Lausanne last Friday while others joined by conference call. Among those who joined the meeting via conference call, was three-time Olympic gold medallist and current coach of the US women’s national team, Karch Kiraly. Philippe Blain, coach of the Japanese men’s national team, and Jamie Morrison, the Netherlands women’s team coach, also joined the call. Mark Lebedew, Australia’s men’s team coach; Gert van de Broek, Belgium’s women’s team coach; and Marcos Kwiek, the Dominican Republic’s men’s team coach, were among those who joined the meeting in-person at the FIVB headquarters.



During the meeting, the coaches voiced their support for the VNL and expressed their gratitude to the FIVB for modernising the sport through innovation and technological advancements. They also discussed the format of the VNL with the FIVB President and shared their opinions on what improvements could be made for the competition next season.

Following the meeting, the FIVB President Ary Graça said:
“We are delighted that our great coaches managed to find time in the middle of their preparations for the prestigious FIVB Volleyball World Championships, to join us for this important meeting. What we discussed today could shape the future of our beloved sport. Volleyball Nations League is a very professional tournament that will be a key product for us in the future.

“It is extremely important for the FIVB to listen to our athletes and coaches’ thoughts and ideas. The dialogue we started today will continue and we are going to work on the implementation of the coaches’ suggestions to ensure that next year’s competition is even better than this year’s inaugural edition.”
