Lausanne, Switzerland, April 16, 2018 - With less than a month to go until the start of the FIVB's exciting new competition, the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, fans can look forward to a historic and thrilling season of international volleyball.

The Volleyball Nations League is a brand new competition launched by the FIVB this year for the top men's and women's national teams of the world. The aim of the VNL is to raise the level of the sporting action for fans and provide a world class platform for athletes to compete and grow. Launching a men's and women's competition under the same name and format promotes equality in volleyball, while also making it simpler and more engaging to follow.

The World Championships also provide innovation. It is the first time that the men's competition will be jointly hosted by two countries, with Italy and Bulgaria stepping in to host the 24 finalist men's teams over three weeks, from September 10 to 30.

Following a gruelling qualification process across all continents, the finalists are there to challenge defending champions Poland for the coveted title, which will be contested in the finals of the competition in Turin.

The women's World Championship, hosted by Japan, follows from September 29 to October 20 across six cities in the 'Land of the Rising Sun'.

Just two years before Japan gets to host the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the top 24 teams of the globe will challenge defending champions USA for world supremacy, with the finals taking place in Yokohama.

The season concludes at the end of the calendar year with the Men's Club World Championship from November 25 to December 2 in Poland, followed immediately after by the women's event in China, from December 4 to 9.
