The Montreux Volley Masters takes place for the 33rd time in 2018. For over three decades, it has been a key event in the international calendar, attracting the top teams in women's volleyball.

Speaking at the press conference held at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, to launch this year's edition of the tournament, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said: "The Montreux Volley Masters is one of volleyball's most long-standing traditions and I thank the organisers for what they have done for the sport in the past and what they continue to do today. The Montreux Volley Masters is very important to the volleyball family and we have all worked hard to keep the tournament in the international calendar. The tournament has also developed considerably in recent years embracing the innovations and technology that we at the FIVB put forward for our volleyball and beach volleyball events."

The press conference was held at FIVB headquarters on Thursday. Also attending were Montreux municipality representative Pierre Rochat (left) and Anne-Sylvie Monnet from Swiss Volley (right).

2017 Montreux Volley Masters winners Brazil, coach Lang Ping's 2016 Olympic champions China, Italy and Russia are all in the top seven teams in the FIVB World Ranking and will be among the favourites at this year's event in Montreux. For their coaches, it will also be an ideal opportunity to put the finishing touches to their teams' preparations ahead of the Women's World Championship in Japan from September 29 to October 20.

Star coach Giovanni Guidetti and his Turkish team will be another force to reckon with. A successful coach with the German and Dutch national teams, as well as with Turkish club Vakifbank Istanbul, the Italian will attempt to lead the Turkish team to success.

This year's tournament will also feature an African team for the first time. 2017 African champions Cameroon will participate with an eye to preparing for the 2018 Women's World Championship in Japan. Poland and hosts Switzerland will also be making the most of an opportunity to measure up against the best teams in the world.
