Men’s Club World Championship medallists make strong start to new year

Men's Club World Championship winners Zenit Kazan take on Jastrzebski Wegial in the third leg of the CEV Champions League on Tuesday night.
Lausanne, Switzerland, January 16, 2018 – Zenit Kazan, Cucine Lube Civitanova and Sada Cruzeiro Volei’s podium-finishing performances in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Poland boosted their momentum as they resumed their respective national league campaigns.

After their Club World Championship triumph, Zenit Kazan ended 2017 with two wins and opened 2018 with a 3-2 loss to former world champions Belogorie Belgorod in the Russian Super League. However, the Russian club was back on track with victories in their last two outings to stay on top of the league standings. Their next mission is to face Jastrzebski Wegial in the third leg of the CEV Champions League on Tuesday night.

Lube Civitanova started the new year with a winning run of four wins, putting them in second place in the Italian Super League standings. Lube Civitanova will see action in the CEV Champions League on January 17 against Turkish club Istanbul SK.

Bronze medallists Sada Cruzeiro started 2018 with two tie-break matches, winning the first match against Volei Renata then losing the next to Sesc RJ. Sada Cruzeiro are in second position in the Brazilian Superliga standings.

Meanwhile, Polish clubs PGE Skra Belchatow and Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle will also play in Pool C and Pool E of the CEV Champions League.
