United States Olympian David McKienzie ready for Langkawi World Tour event

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 11, 2017 -  David McKienzie, American Olympic volleyball player and husband to Malaysian actress, Lana Nodin, will take to the shores of Pantai Cenang in the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour – Malaysia Open on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16. McKienzie will partner with Andrew Dentler as the wild card team in the men’s tournament.

A silver medallist with the USA volleyball team at the London 2012 Olympic Games, McKienzie has also played on the AVP Beach Volleyball Tour in the United States and played the Kish Island and Shepparton World Tour events earlier this year with Ed Ratledge. Speaking about the event in Langkawi, he said: “This will be my first international game on Malaysian ground. I am very excited and look forward to competing with the list of teams announced by the FIVB.”

When asked about his transition from indoor volleyball to beach volleyball, McKienzie said that: “both sports might sound similar, but each has its challenges. I will have to adapt to the settings, rules, surroundings and skills. I believe that my experience, knowledge and training will be advantageous for the team during the games.”

McKienzie and Dentler will partner for the first time on the World Tour this season at the event in Langkawi.



Thirty-two teams from Australia, Austria, Cuba, Czech Republic, Spain, Estonia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Switzerland and the United States are in the entry list. A total of of $20,000 (approximately RM89,000) in prize money will be given away for the double-gender tournament.

Malaysia will host the fifth event on the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour after stops in Fort Lauderdale (USA), Kish Island (Iran), Shepparton and Sydney (Australia).
