FIVB President to visit snow volleyball festival

FIVB President Dr Graça will see plenty of on-court action in the Austrian Alps
Lausanne, Switzerland, Austria, March 22, 2017 – FIVB president Dr. Ary S. Graça F° will attend his first snow volleyball event when he travels up the Austrian Alps to Wagrain-Kleinarl this week.

The Alpine venue is playing host to the inaugural three-day 2017 FIVB Volleyball Your Way Snow Festival from March 22-24 and will then host the international Snow Volleyball Goes Europe professional tournament on Saturday March 25 and Sunday March 26.

Dr Graça’s visit underlines the growing importance of snow volleyball and he will be joined on his visit by Serbian volleyball legend Vladimir Grbic, who won volleyball gold at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and who is currently secretary of the FIVB Athletes Commission.

“It’s amazing. We started nine years ago and now we will have the president of the biggest sports governing body globally, here, in Austria. This is definitely a big sign for volleyball in general, but especially for snow volleyball,” said Martin Kaswurm, Managing Director at Chaka2, the company that created snow volleyball as a professional sport in Wagrain-Kleinarl in 2008.

“We are very excited that president Graça is coming and we will welcome him in the best possible way. We share the wish of the FIVB to make snow volleyball an Olympic sport in the future and I see this as the first small step in this direction. I am happy that he will visit us during an event, which is not only focusing on professional snow volleyball, but also on the grassroots. Hundreds of kids are having a chance to play snow volleyball during the three days of our festival here.”

The Your Way Snow Festival is a three-day event and has hosted 400 children. On Friday the children will move up the mountain where they will be able to test out the snow courts where the international Snow Volleyball Goes Europe professional tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
