Czech and Slovenians triumph on Slovenian snow

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 19, 2017 – Anna Dostalova and Michaela Knoblochova showed why they are top of the CEV Snow Volleyball Rankings when they won gold at the Kranjska Gora Tournament in Slovenia on Sunday, while Tadej Bozenk and Danijel Pokersnik shook off their bottom-placed ranking to win men’s gold. 

Czech duo Dostalova and Knoblochova claimed their first gold medals after previously winning two silver and one bronze by beating Slovakia’s Silvia Poszmikova and Eva Elekova 3-0 (16-14, 11-7, 11-8). 

“The first set was hard, but we won,” Dostalova said. “It was a perfect atmosphere, perfect fans (we do not know them, but they have been cheering for us), and we felt good on the court.”

Marta Swiechowska and Magdalena Zochowska claimed the bronze medals after beating Tiana Nicolaus and Anika Wucherer by 2-0 (11-5, 12-10) in the third place game.

Slovenia’s Bozenk and Pokersnik needed to go through the loser’s bracket after they lost in the second round and won the first CEV Tour tournament that they entered with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-8). over the Czech Republic’s Robert Kufa and David Kufa.

“We had strong opponents in the final, but we played in our home country,” Pokersnik said. “We are extremely proud that we achieved this gold. Next week we are going to the international tournament in Wagrain-Kleinarl and I hope that we play this well there too.”

Austrian duo Florian Schnetzer and Helmut Moser won bronze when they defeated Poland’s Michal Matyja and Karol Szczepanik 2-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-4).
