Giants Kenya, Cameroon and Tunisia to meet in tough pool at African Olympic Qualifier

The seven coaches for the African Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament
Yaoundé, Cameroon, February 11, 2016 - African champions Kenya were grouped in tough Pool A along with hosts Cameroon and favourites Tunisia, while Egypt, Algeria Botswana and Uganda were clustered in Pool B, as a result of the Drawing of Lots for the African Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament held at Djeuga Hotel on Thursday evening.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals. The winners will book the ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, while the second and third placed teams will have another opportunity to qualify through the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan.

The coaches expressed their hopes to clinch the ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Kenya are confident that they can bag the ticket after their exemplary performance in Group 3 of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

“We came here to win the tournament and continue our great performance in the international level, since gaining the gold medal at the World Grand Prix last year,” Kenya coach Japheth Munala said. “Our pool is very tough but I know my players will be able to make it to the Olympics.”

The competition will start on Friday with an epic faceoff between Cameroon and Tunisia in Pool A, while Pool B will also have tough matches between Uganda and Egypt, and Algeria and Botswana.
