Canada hit the road for Rio qualifier

Canada will play hosts USA, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico
Ottawa, Canada, January 6, 2016 - Canada are one of four teams participating in the NORCECA Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament which begins in Lincoln, USA tomorrow and runs until Saturday, January 9.

The competition winners will qualify directly for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The second placed team from the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament will get another chance to qualify for the Summer Games at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament which will take place in May or June later this year. The third placed team will also get another chance to qualify for Rio at the second World Olympic Qualification Tournament also due to take place in May or June.

Speaking ahead of Canada's matches this weekend, Canada coach Arnd Ludwig said: "We've had a short and intense training period preparing for this tournament. The athletes worked really hard and came back in great shape from their professional teams. We look forward to competing at the highest level, and moving towards the next step of our biggest goal."

The NORCECA Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament will be held from January 7 to 9 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. The United States, ranked No. 1 in the world and reigning world champions, are hosting the four-team round-robin with Dominican Republic (7th), Puerto Rico (16th) and Canada (17th).
