Las Panteras chase Olympic dream

Las Panteras will be competing for a berth at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in Japan
Rio de Janeiro - June 1, 2015 - After a week of intensive training at the Cenard facilities in Buenos Aires, the Argentine women's team and coach Guillermo Orduna have travelled to Comodoro Rivadavia, which will host the South American qualifier for the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup from June 3-7.

The winners and runners-up at the FIVB Volleyball World Cup, which will be held in Japan from August 22 through to September 23, will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Argentina's first match at the South American qualifier for the World Cup will be against Uruguay at 21.00 on Wednesday. Orduna's team will then play Chile at 21.00 on Thursday. Those two matches will be followed by an encounter with Colombia at 20.00 on Saturday, and a match against Peru at 20.00 on Sunday.

The Peruvians are arguably the team to beat and will be led by captain Clarivett Yllescas. Peru will host the Pan-American Cup and the team bring four very talented junior players to Argentina: Angela Leyva, Maguilaura Frías, Andrea Urrutia and Coraima Gomez.

Argentina have made two changes to the team that represented the country at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014. Clarisa Sagardia replaces Antonela Curatola in the setting role, while Marianela Garbari will be the new libero, replacing Lucia Gaido. Captain Yamila Nizetich and middle spiker Emilce Sosa are the most experienced players on the team.

The South American qualifier event is organised by the Chubut Volleyball Federation headed by Gustavo Rasgido, and the Argentine Volleyball Federation (FeVA).
