Bangkok, Thailand, May 8, 2015 – The AVC Referees’ Course and Pre-International Referee Candidates Course that kicked off at the FIVB Development Center in Bangkok on May 4 concluded on May 8 with AVC Senior Advisor Katsumi Wakao presiding over the presentation of certificates and the closing ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony as guests of honour were Shanrit Wongpraset, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Asian Volleyball Confederation, and Beny Coonghe, one of the Referee Sub-Committee members who has officiated in a number of top volleyball competitions.

The participants in the five-day course, conducted by Course Instructor and Chairman of the AVC Referees Committee Songsak Charoenpong, were 17 referees from 10 federations in East and Southeast Asia: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. All participants passed the standard tests and necessary requirements.

“It’s my great pleasure to be here with all of you, Katsumi Wakao said at the closing ceremony. “You did a good job during the five-day seminar theoretically and practically. After this, I’m convinced that upon your returns, all of you will play a vital part in improving and developing your National Volleyball Referees.”
