Rio 2016 men’s volleyball final in highest demand

Brazilians are hoping their men's team can improve from silver to gold at Rio 2016
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 6, 2015 – The men’s volleyball gold medal match at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games is the most in-demand ticket after the first phase of ticket applications shut.

Tickets were made available to Brazilian residents up to the end of May 5. Brazilians responded in huge numbers with 4.4million requests of which volleyball was the most popular of the 28 sports available.

The men’s volleyball match, like all the matches, will take place at the 12,000-capacity Maracanazinho Arena and already there have been 220 applications for each ticket to the match which will take place on August 21, 2016.

“We have received thousands of applications from each state in Brazil and this demonstrates that the whole country is full of enthusiasm to take part in the Olympic Games,” Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman said. “Every spectator at the Games will have, without doubt, an unforgettable experience.”

Brazil’s men are aiming to end what will by then be a 12-year wait for Olympic gold, having won silver at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 since they claimed gold at Athens 2004. Brazil’s women though will try to match Cuba’s record of three consecutive gold medals from Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, by adding Rio 2016 gold to their podium-topping success from Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

In total, about 7.5 million tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be put on sale. You can see and download the full Olympic Games competition schedule by clicking here and the Ticketing Guide here, which has all details of the ticket sales process.
