Favourites win at day one ECVA Continental Cup qualifier

Mali Peters of Antigua and Barbuda spikes against Grenada in Friday's action at Eastern Caribbean zonal continental cup
Castaways, Antigua, May 1, 2015 - St. Lucia, Antigua & Barbuda, French St. Martin and Dominica had strong showings to start the Eastern Caribbean Women’s Beach Volleyball Zonal Phase Continental Cup of NORCECA at Castaways on Friday.

Eleven countries are represented in the double-elimination tournament with the top six advancing to a second phase qualifier against the top six countries from the Caribbean zone later this year.

Top-seeded St Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda got free-passes to the second round of series on Friday and began their participation by defeating British Virgin Islands and Grenada, respectively, by 2-0 scores.

French St. Martin and Dominica won their two series on Friday. In a first-round encounter between neighbors, French St. Martin beat Dutch St. Maarten 2-0 and then prevailed over St. Vincent 2-1 in a Golden Set, while Dominica scored 2-0 wins over Bermuda and St. Kitts & Nevis.

Valerie Damaseau and Audrey Gil of FSM-A crushed Keishan Huggins and Chesley Augustine of SXM-B 2-0 (21-1, 21-7) and Fleurimene Cassamajor and Bedelya Hunt of FSM-B overcame Allison Boston and Lathasha Mills of SXM-A 2-1 (17-21, 21-13, 15-9).

Damaseau/Gil beat Shernell Browne and Valerie Franklyn of VIN-B 2-0 (21-12, 21-9) but Nikita Campbell and Bownie Allicott of VIN-A outdueled Cassamajor/Hunt 2-1 (20-22, 21-11, 15-11). Then Damaseau/Gil defeated Campbell/Allicott 15-10 in the Golden Set.
