Third U20 Pan Am Cup begins on Sunday in Santo Domingo

Mexico won the last edition of the competition held in Havana, Cuba
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, April 14, 2015 - The third edition of the NORCECA Women’s U20 Pan American Cup gets underway next Sunday, April 19 at the Ricardo Arias Volleyball Pavillion in Santo Domingo. Teams from six countries will take part in the round-robin competition.

Defending champions Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Nicaragua join hosts the Dominican Republic in the six-day event.

Peru won the first edition of the event - which it also hosted - in 2011, while Mexico triumphed in 2013 when the competition was held in Havana, Cuba. In both cases, the Dominican Republic had to settle for the silver medals.

The opening day of the intercontinental tournament features matches between Chile and Costa Rica, Argentina and Mexico, and Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

At the end of the round-robin phase, which is to be played on consecutive days, the teams placed first and second will clash for the gold medal, while the third and fourth place teams are to meet for the bronze.

Teams will arrive in Santo Domingo on Friday with the preliminary enquiry and the general technical meetings scheduled on Saturday. The members of the control committee will arrive on Thursday.
